Honing is an operation endeavored for smoothing the slab, dulling it, and totally leveling its surface, eliminating therefore, all those tiny natural imperfections. Furthermore, honing gives the slab an initial degree of sheen that can be amplified through polishing with a finer-grained abrasive. This treatment is obtained by the use of machinery with large rotating abrasive discs which, assisted by the use of water, smooth the slabs. Trachyte treated in this way can be used for both indoor flooring and external coatings.
